Protecting Health and Safety at Work and Beyond
Industrial Hygiene is the science dedicated to protecting and enhancing the health and safety of people in their workplaces and communities. This field addresses a wide range of hazards, including chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic stressors. Professionals in this field, known as Industrial Hygienists, are committed to the well-being of individuals at work, home, and within the community.
Industrial Hygienists focus on anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors that may affect health and safety. Criterion’s Industrial Hygienists are members of The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), which establishes certification programs and minimum levels of expertise to perform in the field of Industrial Hygiene.
Our Approach to Workplace Exposure Assessment
Criterion Labs’ Industrial Hygienists are skilled in implementing comprehensive Workplace Exposure Assessment Programs. These programs are designed to evaluate potential personal exposures to hazardous substances through various activities, including job routine observations, workplace control measure evaluations, and environmental sampling. Depending on the nature of the chemical hazard, the frequency of chemical use, and handling practices, our Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) team performs several types of sampling.
Typical Industrial Hygiene Exposure Monitoring Includes:
- Asbestos
- Formaldehyde
- Airborne dust (total, respirable, inhalable, thoracic, PM10, and PM2.5)
- Solvent-based materials
- Chemical carcinogens or extremely toxic substances
- Metals including lead, arsenic, mercury, beryllium, and chromium (Cr3, Cr6)
